Even if you’re a casual fan of anime and manga, you’re likely at least aware of the name Rumiko Takahashi, as she’s created some of the biggest hit titles in a career that has spanned from the 1970s to today! Still not sure you know who she is? Do you know InuYasha? Or Maison Ikkoku? Or Urusei Yatsura? Or Ranma ½? Or Rin-ne? If you answered yes to any of those titles, you know this prolific author. Now fans are getting a chance to get to know her better than ever as she’s decided to join Twitter!

In her pinned tweet, Takahashi states that she’s going to use the account to make major announcements regarding her work but also to answer questions from fans! Now, the former bit is pretty par for the course as that’s what just about everyone uses Twitter for, but the latter, that’s exciting!
I should note that if you submit your questions via her Twitter account, you’re not likely to get a reply. Instead, a special website has been set up for fans to submit questions. On July 1st, fifteen of those questions will be selected for her to answer. There’s no rule that says you have to live in Japan to submit a question, so everyone around the world should feel free to go nuts and ask their burning questions. You have absolutely nothing to lose by doing so.
Now, I’ve gone on the record before as saying that I’m not the biggest fan of Takahashi’s works (at least the anime adaptations of her works), but even I can see how monumental of an event this is. With that said though, can we all agree to please be nice to Takahashi on Twitter? We’ve all heard the horror stories of popular figures joining Twitter only to discover that people aren’t always kind on there and leave before they could even really get started. Let’s not do that to her, mmk? Can we just do that much?
