The first trailer for the upcoming anime adaptation of Liar Liar has been unveiled, showing us how well Hiroto Shinohara can bluff his way to the top of the pecking order. This series has a similar premise to Liar Game, so those interested in mind games and duels will have much to enjoy. It’s just not as dark in tone as Liar Game was.
The series is set to premiere in July 2023. Until then, we can enjoy this trailer.
An official Twitter page and a promotional home page have been set up to inform fans and potential viewers about series announcements. Bonuses such as the key visual can be found there.
Furthermore, the website has a “special” section with various works of art. Here are just a few of them.
Duel to Rule the School
Liar Liar takes place on an island south of Tokyo Bay. Officially known as the Four Seasons Island, it is also known as the Academy due to the many students who live there. The Academy has rigorous entrance qualifications, and Hiroto Shinohara (voiced by Genta Nakamura) managed to pass them, barely, to transfer in. His trip to the island was not without issue, so he was not in the best shape to learn how “duels” are operated between students.
His first duel was with the academy idol Sarasa Saionji (voiced by Wakana Kuramochi). He defeated her through a fortunate series of misunderstandings, though he felt somewhat guilty about how things happened. Regardless, he gained the top rank in the school, a full seven stars availing him of all the best the island offers. He must now keep his lofty title through deception, as he’s not the unstoppable god of war he is perceived to be.
Liar Liar Origins
Liar Liar began its semester as a light novel series written by Haruki Kuo and illustrated by konomi. Media Factory started publishing the series in their MF Bunko J imprint on April 25th, 2019, releasing twelve volumes since then.
The series was later adapted to manga, with Funa Yukina taking over as illustrator. Media Factory started publishing this adaptation in their Monthly Comic Alive magazine on August 27th, 2019, with two volumes thus far.
For those looking for another schoolgirl in a unique situation, the J-List shop, as always, has them covered. The Rikka Takarada 1/7 Figure School Uniform Ver. from SSSS.GRIDMAN would make a fine addition to any cultured collection.
