The teachers consider Kaya a “problem child” at school. They often see her fighting and arguing with the other students. However, her intentions are much more noble than they appear. Monsters exist in her world, and she is one of the few who can see them. Kaya fights to defend people from things they can’t see. We’ll see if anyone arrives to protect her when Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary (Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai) premieres on January 11th, 2026.
Taro Yuri — a former kindergarten teacher — released the original Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary manga series on April 1st, 2022. Shinchosha has published seven volumes of it in Kurage Bunch.
Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary Cast
The cute psychic girl, her kindergarten teacher, and her father are as follows:
- Kaya Sato — Azusa Tachibana (Lily from The Quintessential Quintuplets*). Kaya is a powerful psychic who can see and instantly defeat monsters.
- Chie Hasumi — Maaya Uchida (Kaguya Yamai in Date A Live). Chie-sensei is Kaya’s kind and understanding teacher.
- Shizuo Sato — Toshiyuki Morikawa (Christopher Skyline from Vigilante: Boku no Hero Academia Illegals). Shizuo is Kaya’s hard-working father. He doesn’t have her psychic abilities.

Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary, Even When She’s Saving the Day
Kaya Sato is a clever and brave kindergarten student. She works to undermine and fight monsters that prey on her fellow students. Unfortunately for her and her public reputation, no one else can see the monsters. Naturally, they don’t believe a word she says when she tells them the truth. Kaya then decides to stop trying to convince them and work to protect the school at her personal risk and expense.
Higher-ups had recently assigned Chie-sensei to watch after Kaya during school hours. Kaya’s poor reputation immediately puts her on edge. However, she soon sees Kaya in action when a swing-based monster appears and harms the children. Chie-sensei can hardly believe her eyes, but she quickly becomes Kaya’s first real ally against the forces of darkness.
