A loving wife and mother passed away ten years ago. Her death left an indelible scar on her family. However, she returned to her husband and daughter in the form of a little girl. It turns out she reincarnated. If My Wife Becomes an Elementary School Student (Tsuma, Shogakusei ni Naru) shows a family reconnecting most unusually. Yayu Murata wrote and illustrated the original If My Wife Becomes an Elementary School Student manga series from July 27th, 2018, to December 2nd, 2022. Houbunsha published all fourteen volumes in Weekly Manga Times. TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System) first aired the live-action adaptation on January 21st, 2022.
Our reconnected family members are as follows:
- Keisuke Niijima — Daisuke Hirakawa (Sein’s older brother from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End). His wife’s death drove him to depression and isolation from everyone around him. He’s happy to see her return.
- Takae Niijima / Marika Shiraishi — Aoi Yuki (Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners). Keisuke’s wife and Mai’s mother reincarnated as a child. Her husband’s doting flusters her.
- Mai Niijima — Maiko Nomura (Children’s voices from Pokémon: Twilight Wings). Her mother’s death silently created a rift between herself and her father. Takae’s return mostly confuses her.

If My Wife Becomes an Elementary School Student Reunites a Broken Family
An unexpected passing tore a family apart. Takae Niijima lost her life in an accident and left her husband and daughter behind. Keisuke and Mai never got over her death. Keisuke became a hollow shell both at work and at home. Mai only worked from home and shared pre-made convenience store dinners with her father. Their listless lives became upended when Takae returned to them as a child.
Takae was reborn as Marika Shiraishi after her passing. She’s now an elementary student who only recently regained her memories. Takae returned to scold them for their messy lives. Her goal is to see them get over her death and move on with their lives. A mother’s work is never complete.
