Another isekai anime adaptation has appeared! I Shall Survive Using Potions (Potion-danomi de Ikinobimasu) takes more of a meta approach, but it’s cute and funny. Kaoru’s tale will premiere in 2023, but Studio Jumondou has not given us a month or a quarter, even. Still, the trailer is plenty cute and magical.
Even though it left us high and dry without a release date, Jumondou has set up some websites we can follow for updates. The official I Shall Survive Using Potions Twitter page is active, where it shared Tomoyo Takayanagi’s tweet expressing her joy about voicing Francette. It also set up a promotional home page, where it shared the Key Visual seen below.
Two Worlds Collide and an Office Lady Meets God
I Shall Survive Using Potions follows the story of Kaoru Nagase (voiced by Rin Kusumi) and her run-in with gods. Kaoru was a 22-year-old office lady who worked entirely too hard. The world presented to us gives some details about the nature of the space-time continuum. There are many worlds, and spatiotemporal energy distortions occur when two get too close to one another. The gods typically handle these issues, but Earth’s God, or Administrator, was just a bit too slow, and Kaoru was caught in one. She died instantly, and people found out, so resurrection was impossible.
However, God saved her consciousness and soul and offered her another chance at life. Earth’s Administrator granted her request for “cheat skills,” which she asked for specifically, and a chance to say goodbye to her friends and family. He felt guilty and was ready to give her anything Kaoru wanted. He sent her to Vernie, a world that matched medieval Europe, where she met another Administrator, Celestine.
There, the remaining wishes were granted: she went from 22 to 15, so she could grow up again, a gift of languages, a bottomless bag, and the ability to make whatever potions she wanted. Kaoru also wanted Celestine to be her “life-long friend” to avoid loneliness, which also made her immortal because Celestine is a goddess and will never grow old.
Celestine assured Kaoru that the world of Vernie was one of swords and sorcery. However, magic is not so widespread, so her talents are highly sought after, especially by nobles. Thus, Kaoru will try to live a good life in another world with her potion-making ability.
I Shall Survive Using Potions Origins
Kaoru first met her end in a multi-dimensional accident in the novel series written by FUNA. The author originally published it to Shosetsuka ni Naro on November 3rd, 2015, where it continues.
Kodansha picked up the rights and tasked the artist Sukima to adapt the series into a light novel format. I Shall Survive Using Potions began its new run at the Kodansha Ranobe Books imprint on June 1st, 2017, and has since released nine volumes.
Kodansha adapted the series to manga format three times with two new artists and Sukima for the spin-off.
If you are looking for a familiar isekai girl, then the J-List shop has a recommendation. The Roxy Migurdia 1/7 Figure from Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation -Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu- is available now for pre-order.
