Ever since the Guinness World Records began in 1955, countless records have been created, set, and broken. From the largest animal to the fastest person, long lists of records have been cataloged. Now, a Studio Ghibli fan has a record that Ghibli fans the world over would go green with envy over. French makeup artist and model Eloïse Jéglot currently holds the Guinness World Record for the largest collection of Studio Ghibli memorabilia. A YouTube video posted on the Guinness World Records channel goes further in-depth on Jéglot’s collection.
Jéglot has a dedicated room for her collection, and while it may seem tiny, her vast collection is artfully arranged, containing everything from plushies and block calendars to noren curtains and limited edition items. And while it may seem that she has better access to these items living in France, she knows the struggle of every fan and collector alike, often obtaining her items from nail-biting online auctions and bemoaning customs fees and taxes.
Jéglot also gives insight into her favorite items, noting that items from Ponyo are the hardest to find and that not even her most expensive items were safe from the perils of transit, as was the case with her anniversary Catbus statue, which arrived broken and ended up needing to be repaired. While Jéglot received the world record on October 7th of 2021 for an astounding 1,304 items, reportedly she’s expanded her collection even further since then, for a new total of 1,496 items. No doubt, as a devoted fan she’s seen the news of Studio Ghibli’s new theme park opening this fall, and is planning for even more additions to her collection accordingly.
But for those who want to start their own collections and someday surpass Jéglot’s record, or just enjoy getting merch from your favorite Ghibli film, J-List has you covered. We have a Blu-ray version of Studio Ghibli’s rare short collection, which compiles the studio’s shorts from 1992 through 2006. Blu-rays of other classic Ghibli films are also available, including Studio Ghibli’s newest film, Earwig and the Witch. Here’s to hoping seeing one fan’s dedication inspires others to keep their passions alive and keep making and breaking records.
