The good news is that the very first promotional video for the highly anticipated second season of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, simply titled Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S (The “S” stands for “Super Supreme Second life Starts”) has gone live on the Kyoto Animation YouTube channel! The video reveals not only the new cast members but also, sadly, the new crew members who are replacing those that we lost in the Kyoto Animation arson attack of 2019.
Let’s start with the less bummer news of the new cast member. As seen in the video, Tomomi Mineuchi will join the cast as the new dragon Iruru. As for the crew, the late Yasuhiro Takemoto has been posthumously promoted to series director, while Tatsuya Ishihara will be the official director for the second season. Meanwhile, Shoko Ochiai will take over for the late Mikiko Watanabe as art director. Other than that, the cast and crew are remaining entirely unchanged from the first season.
Originally a manga series created by Coolkyousinnjya which began serializing in 2013 in Monthly Action magazine, the main series has been compiled into nine volumes and multiple spinoff manga thus far, featuring different main characters. The first anime season aired from January 2017 to April and was wildly popular with fans and critics. It was streamed on both Crunchyroll and Funimation. The second season was originally announced back in February 2019 but was delayed due to the previously mentioned attack on the studio.
I’ve said it before and I will continue to keep saying it until Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S premieres this coming July; I cannot wait to watch this one and am stupidly excited about it! The first season of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is on regular rotation for series that I rewatch, for very good reason. Charming doesn’t begin to describe this series and I love it with all my geeky little heart.
