Add Fire Force to the list of manga titles that could very well end within the next few months as the author, Atsushi Ohkubo, has revealed via his Twitter account that he has submitted the final chapter of the hit shonen series. He went on to say that he still has a lot of work to do and he’s not sure when the final chapter will run in Weekly Shonen Magazine. The fact remains, however, that the final chapter is fast approaching.
ちょうど今、最終話の入稿が終わりました。まだいろいろ仕事は残ってるけどね

What’s “funny” about this tweet thread posted by Ohkubo is when he gets to the part revealing that he doesn’t feel like he has much of a job anymore. The reason for this is that when his first hit series, Soul Eater, ended, he already knew that Fire Force was going to be his next project and they had already put plans into motion for its debut. Here, he states that while he has an idea for another story, he’s not sure when he’ll get around to actually working on it. And honestly, that’s totally fair.
Ohkubo has been working on manga for almost twenty years now. Soul Eater began as a series of one-shots back in 2003 and ended up running for 25 volumes. Fire Force has been running for over 30 volumes since 2015. Some people are born to create and keep on creating until they are no longer capable of holding a pen. Some people choose to do it until they’re comfortable and then ride out the rest of their lives with those most important to them. Both are totally fair paths to follow and I applaud Ohkubo for not letting anyone pressure him into going longer than he feels he needs to. He’s had more success in this industry than many others have ever hoped to dream of and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Enjoy your extended vacation Ohkubo, you’ve certainly earned it.
