Imagine this: every single day, there’s the threat of danger looming overhead. And while the world tells you the people in charge have everything under control, you as an ordinary person still have to go to school or work, and live your life as normally as possible. What a racket, right? Well, if you’re Kadode Koyama and her best friend Ouran Nakagama, that’s what you’re stuck doing every day. And we’ll get to experience it alongside them, as Dead Dead Demon’s Dededededestruction is getting an anime adaptation!
The manga was first serialized in 2014 and is authored by Inio Asano. If you’re not familiar with Inio Asano, the first thing you’ll need to know about him is that he’s very good at crafting stories about the human condition while making us cry at the same time. Some of his best-known works include Goodnight Punpun, Solanin, and A Girl on the Shore. Dead Dead Demon’s Dededededestruction will be the first anime adaptation for any of Asano’s works, though Solanin and A Girl on the Shore had live-action films produced.
While a timeframe for release or most other pertinent details has yet to be released, we do know that Production +h. is handling the animation for the project. They seem to be a newer studio, with only tweening and key animation projects under their belt so far along with a movie called Space Camper Chicchi, but a larger scale animation project like this may be just the thing they need to make their mark on the industry.
Asano also created new artwork to mark the occasion, with GAGA Communications releasing a behind-the-scenes video showing Asano’s process and announcing the anime.
While the anime’s subject matter might hit a little closer to home after all this time, hopefully, we’ll find it cathartic to empathize with characters in a similar situation instead of distressing. Not to mention, without a concrete timeframe for the anime’s release, now would be a good time to check out the manga to see if it’s your cup of tea, as it recently ended its twelve-volume run in February of this year.
