Finally, the big “When” question has been answered for the Fruits Basket -prelude- movie that was released in Japan earlier this year.
In an announcement that hit the internet on Wednesday, June 1st, Crunchyroll revealed that they have licensed the prequel movie Fruits Basket -prelude-. In the announcement, they revealed they will screen the movie in the United States and Canada on June 25th, 28th, and 29th in both subtitled and English-dubbed versions. The UK will also get a screening on July 20th but that will only be available in the English dubbed format.
To celebrate the announcement, they released two trailers (Japanese with English subtitles and English dubbed) which show some key moments from the movie to whet your anime appetites.

While the trailer focuses mostly on Kyoko’s story from her time in a motorcycle gang, it’s worth noting that this is only a small part of the overall movie. The other parts of the movie include a recap of the original television series and a special epilogue that will show Tohru and Kyo together in their new home.
This movie is the final piece of the Fruits Basket puzzle and I couldn’t be more thrilled with its arrival. Fruits Basket has been a very special part of my life ever since I first encountered the first anime adaptation many years ago. Now that the remake is done, fans on this side of the Pacific will finally get their long-awaited closure and will be able to rest peacefully knowing that they got to see Tohru Honda’s true happy ending. If that’s not worth celebrating, I don’t know what is.
Hopefully, you live in a region where it will be easy to watch this final movie because if the Japanese box office numbers are any indication, this is going to be one of the hottest tickets of the summer for the anime community.
