Sad news today for fans of the shonen anime Black Clover as it’s been revealed that the series will reach its conclusion on March 30th, with episode 170. The good news, however, is that the series will end with an “important announcement”. Additionally, before the end of the final episode, a special YouTube broadcast will stream at 6 pm Japan time featuring the cast.
Originally a manga series created by Yūki Tabata, Black Clover has been running in Shonen Jump since 2015. It didn’t get an anime adaptation until 2017, however, and has been running almost continuously ever since. The anime is produced by Studio Pierrot and has been simulcast by both Crunchyroll and Funimation since the beginning, while the manga is being released by Viz Media. Crunchyroll describes the story as:
In a world where magic is everything, Asta and Yuno are both found abandoned at a church on the same day. While Yuno is gifted with exceptional magical powers, Asta is the only one in this world without any. At the age of fifteen, both receive grimoires, magic books that amplify their holder’s magic. Asta’s is a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic that negates and repels his opponent’s spells. Being opposite but good rivals, Yuno and Asta are ready for the hardest of challenges to achieve their common dream: to be the Wizard King. Giving up is never an option!
Now, I’m not going to sit here and pretend like I’ve watched this series from the beginning and am some kind of superfan. However, it is always a sad day when an anime ends, especially one as popular as Black Clover which, at one point, was the most-watched series on Crunchyroll. The big thing to keep in mind about this though is that there is an “important announcement” yet to be made and the tagline on that key visual says “A new era starts” which tells me that fans probably won’t be too upset with whatever the announcement turns out to be.
Regardless, what are your favorite scenes or memories from this series?
