June 9th marks another fun, informal Japanese holiday. Known as Rock (n’ Roll) Day (Rokku no Hi), it comes from the numbers 6 (roku) and 9 (ku). We all know the numbers 6 and 9 are great, especially together. Artists celebrate Rock n’ Roll Day on social media with #ロックの日 and there’s plenty to celebrate there. Now, let’s give some real rocker girls the stage.
1. Hitori Gotoh / Bocchi (Bocchi the Rock!)
Bocchi’s love of rock n’ roll pushes her to perform with a group and on stage despite her debilitating shyness and anxiety. She’s the lead guitarist and lyricist of Kessoku Band. Slowly but surely, she can rock her heart out with her friends.
Anime has far more cute girl rockers than you’d think. The Hitori-chan Palm Sized Melty Princess Figure from Bocchi the Rock! is available to purchase right now.
Aki Hamaji has been drawing and writing Bocchi’s series since December 19th, 2017. Houbunsha has published six volumes in the Manga Time Kirara Max magazine thus far. Studio CloverWorks first aired the anime adaptation on October 9th, 2022.
2. Yui Hirasawa (K-On!)
Yui may be a bit of an airhead, but she’s still the lead guitarist and vocalist of Ho-kago Tea Time. Unlike Bocchi, Yui knows nothing of stage fright or anxiety. She gives it her all on stage but is quite lazy elsewhere.
Kakifly wrote and illustrated the original K-On! manga series from April 9th, 2007, to June 28th, 2012. Houbunsha published all six volumes in Manga Time Kirara and Manga Time Kirara Carat. Kyoto Animation first aired the anime adaptation on April 3rd, 2009.
3. Haruhi Suzumiya (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
Haruhi is a bored goddess who chases her every fancy. To the applause of many, one of her hobbies is rock n’ roll. She briefly served as the lead singer and guitarist of ENOZ, an all-female band from school. As the cultured goddess of our hearts, she chose to cosplay for her concert.
Nagaru Tanigawa and Noizi Ito released the original The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya light novel on June 6th, 2003. Kadokawa Shoten has published twelve volumes in the Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint since.
4. Super Sonico (Super Sonico)
Sonico is a well-liked and outgoing rocker who enjoys many rock n’ roll forms. She is the vocalist and guitarist of First Astronomical Velocity. Sonico takes some side jobs whenever she’s not playing music.
One of those jobs happens to be as a cute waitress. The Super Sonico 1/6 Figure Bikini Waitress Ver. from Super Sonico is available to purchase right now.
Tsuji Santa designed Sonico for Nitroplus sometime in 2006. She has since appeared in different forms, such as manga, anime, and video games.
5. Riina Tada (THE iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls)
Riina’s dream is to become a “cool” rock idol. As such, she’s part of the “cool” branch of the Cinderella Project. Riina does her best to maintain friendships with the other Cinderella girls, even when they have conflicting fashion choices.
Cool idols are always in stock at J-List. The Chiyuki Kuwayama 1/7 Figure Yosoyukigao no Serenade Ver. from The iDOLM@STER Shiny Colors is now available.
THE iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls began as a gacha game on mobile devices. The game launched on November 28th, 2011, and service concluded on March 30th, 2023. A-1 Pictures began airing the anime adaptation on January 10th, 2015.
