I think everyone that is into gaming and fan service is aware of the Dead or Alive Xtreme franchise by now. Last year we saw the release of the third game in the series, both for PS4 and VITA (named Fortune and Venus versions accordingly). It’s a game where you relax on an island resort, alongside your favorite Dead or Alive girls, and engage with them by playing butt battles, poker, volleyball and some other activities. Ah, before I forget, the game has a truck load of skimpy, sexy, and weird bikinis to dress up your girls in. We don’t want them to just wander the island naked to catch a cold now, do we?
Let’s be honest, everyone who owned the PlayStation 4 version was patiently waiting for the VR (Virtual Reality) update that was promised, and Team Ninja (the developer) recently delivered! Now you can finally have a real virtual date with your favorite girl from the series!
Going to start with the positive things first. It’s Dead or Alive girls on VR. The VR in this game is rather basic, and they use the extra modes included in the normal version of the game: Event Paradise, Pictoral Paradise, and Photo Paradise.
You can customize the girl’s bikinis, tan, wetness (not that kind of wetness… you pervert!), and hairstyle. You can then navigate to Event Paradise to re-watch past events, Pictoral Paradise to decide on the scene of your choice and time of day, or if you’re into poses, select Photo Paradise. After you’ve decided on a setup that’s catered to your taste, you can then enjoy some alone time with your Dead or Alive waifu, enjoy the scenery and snap some pictures, or have a virtual date for only 30 seconds.
Once you’re equipped with the Virtual Reality headset, you’re able admire the girls in glorious 3D. The game encourages you to sit still and to not stand or walk around. You can press the circle button which changes the view point, triangle to call a girl, so she turns her head and looks at you, or the square button to make the background disappear.
There are some clever scenes where positioning is everything, like when Marie Rose is looking at Zack’s golden statue on the beach, without knowing whats there in the real world… and Honoka cleaning a statue right in front of you, making it feel that she’s actually cleaning you and not the statue. Still, it’s disappointing that you can’t play the main game in VR, or even watch the girls play volleyball or do other activities. Would be perfect if there was an option to play Poker with all the girls in full 3D.
Overall, I really enjoyed the time I spent with my Ayane (yeah, sorry guys, she’s taken), it felt like paradise, except that time when she noticed I was telling bed time stories to Marie Rose on Friday nights, I just can’t resist that cat bikini.
