Bug Day is another informal holiday that the cultured otaku of Japan repurposed for anime girls. The date breaks down as such: 6 (mu), 4 (shi) makes mushi, the Japanese word for bug. With that explanation out of the way, let’s appreciate some cute bug girls.
1. Mosquito Girl (One-Punch Man)
Mosquito Girl is one of the first enemies Saitama and Genos face in the One-Punch Man series. Yes, bug girls must take priority. Her swarm of mosquitos reduced people to dried husks in seconds. Then the swarm gave her blood, further enhancing Mosquito Girl’s remarkable powers. This beautiful and deadly bug girl now works at the House of Takoyaki.
Joe has written extensive reviews of One-Punch Man.
One first released his original webcomic sometime in 2009. Shueisha picked up the rights and attached the famed artist Yusuke Murata to illustrate the manga iteration. This run began on June 14th, 2012. There are 29 volumes to be read in the Tonari no Young Jump pages. Madhouse began airing the anime adaptation on October 5th, 2015.
2. Rachnera Arachnera (Monster Musume / Everyday Life with Monster Girls)
Rachnera is a talented and physically powerful spider girl. Bug girls like her can use her natural abilities, such as spinning silk threads that are more durable than steel. Rachnera’s senses are so sharp she can dodge a sniper’s bullet. Her hatred and distrust of humans waned after Kimihito showed her genuine kindness.
Okayado began working on his monster girl-filled series on March 19th, 2012. Tokuma Shoten has released seventeen volumes thus far in the Monthly Comic Ryu magazine. Studio Lerche began airing the anime adaptation on July 7th, 2015.
3. Entoma Vasilissa Zeta (Overlord)
Entoma is one of the more unhinged bug girls of anime. She takes pleasure in trapping people, even if she has no plans to eat them. As a spider girl, she sees humans as prey but doesn’t eat everyone in sight. Entoma takes pride in her role as a Pleiades Six Stars battle maid.
J-List has plenty of bug girls in stock. The Entoma Vasilissa Zeta 1/7 Figure from Overlord is now available for pre-order.
Kugane Maruyama began to work on the original novel on May 9th, 2010. From July 30th, 2012, so-bin joined him on the light novel iteration. Enterbrain has currently published sixteen volumes. Madhouse began airing the anime adaptation on July 7th, 2015.
4. Battlewasp — Azusa the Ghost Bow (Yu-Gi-Oh!)
Battlewasp (or Bee Force, depending on the translation) is a bug girl who takes protecting the hive seriously. Her ability activates when her opponent takes effect damage from another Battlewasp character. In this instance, she can inflict damage equal to the original attack of that Battlewasp monster.
Kazuki Takahashi first released Yu-Gi-Oh! on September 17th, 1996. Since then, multiple series and protagonists have come to save the world by winning card games. Studio Gallop began airing the anime adaptation on April 6th, 2014. Battlewasp was summoned to the field by Shinji Weber in episode 78.
5. QueenBeemon (Digimon)
QueenBeemon rules over the vast aerial Royal Base. She is a cyborg insectoid Digimon with a vast intellect and scientific capabilities. QueenBeemon is second only to TigerVespamon in single combat.
WiZ and Bandai created Digimon in 1997 to be a more masculine counterpart to the digital pet game Tamagotchi. QueenBeemon first appeared in the Digimon Reference Book on May 23rd, 2024.
