Maria Annovazzi has long been seen as the next duchess of Emor. Her father had only daughters, and she was the most talented among them despite being the youngest. Maria trained and mastered her family’s unique martial arts style to become the next duchess. However, her mother gave birth to a younger brother, which immediately upset her plans. Her father declared there and then that she must wed while her new brother inherits her father’s title.

Maria has since traveled to the neighboring Kingdom of Rubini to find a groom. She enrolled in the Royal Peerage Academy to help her achieve her goal. Maria meets with her relative and the crown prince’s fiancée, Aida Ametis. Maria finds herself in the middle of something complicated when Prince Renato accuses Aida of assaulting another girl and annuls their engagement while speaking directly to Maria. Her prospects of finding a good man are looking poor.
