The Familia Café Terrace opens a stall at the Cherry Blossom Festival. Then local bullies rudely react to Ouka’s cute uniform.
Episode 4 — “Cherry Blossom Festival!”
The Bathos Melodrama Meter!
Bathos Melodrama points have become the way to measure how much the girls in Goddess Café Terrace are falling in love with Hayato. Ouka was the featured girl over the last two episodes. It’s easy to raise her affection levels: compliment her costume design work. Is that shallow on her part, or does Kouji Seo think his audience believes shouting sincere statements is the best way to a young woman’s heart? Hayato also yelled sincerely about putting up a food stall (in military terms) at a cherry blossom festival. Don’t people roll their eyes at chuunibyou antics like that? So, can you guess what I did when Hayato publicly bragged about Ouka’s work on themed waitress uniforms?
Goddess Café Terrace scored more bathos points with heavy-handed bullies. Plus, bonus points for making the head delinquent the grandson of Fuwa, the jerk banker. There’s nothing like fighting against intimidation and lowbrow violence to forge emotional ties. In elementary school! Can college-age adults get away with vandalism, assault, and battery, even if the police department has corrupt links to their grandparents? Hayato looked like he had a clever idea, but he should have had Riho share his smartphone evidence online. That would embarrass the bullies, Fuwa, and the police. Ami’s Street Fighter-based justice is entertaining but unnecessary in the age of viral social media.
Oh. There was one callback to violent punishment bathos. The girls sanctioned Ami to beat Hayato for trying to protect drunk Shiragiku’s purity as she ran around the house almost naked. No inadvertent ecchi time will go unpunished in Goddess Café Terrace.
Protecting the Nest Points.
Riho scored the most points with her café management when Hayato staffed its food stall at the festival. She even took control of the Familia Café Terrace social media account to push traffic to the pop-up event. She might have traded all those points away to spend time “baking cookies” with Hayato. Shiragiku coined this new euphemism when she became drunk from liqueur fumes.
Ami also scored points here when she broke out her Street Fighter moves. I would have loved to have seen a Hadouken, but Ami’s versions of kicks and uppercuts made me giggle.
Grandma’s Little Girl Points.
Shiragiku ran up the score by “baking cookies” with Hayato, but Akane added points in Goddess Café Terrace. She snuck in a stealthy three-pointer by having Grandma’s springtime cookie recipe! Of course, she presented the information when no one else was looking. Akane needs to keep her aloof charming appearance. But pay attention to the genuine childhood friend foundation Shiragiku builds. Grandma’s Little Girl is merely the proxy status to substitute Hayato’s childhood friend. Shiragiku hints that she watched Grandma cook for Hayato when the kids were only three years old.
Baka Charm Points.
Ami. Just Ami. Even when Hayato threw in baka points with his references to the Art of War, Ami enthusiastically joined his chuunibyou idiocy. Ouka netted a goal when she added blossom missiles to Ami’s headband. But that came as an assist to Ami’s successful double pump into a delinquent’s eyes.
Drunk Girl Points.
I am seriously concerned that Shiragiku is allergic to alcohol, not merely a lightweight. Fumes from the alcohol-infused baking batter were enough to send her male musk-seeking nostrils down Hayato’s shirt. Again.
Cool Charm Points.
Akane played the cool coffee meister in the café when Hayato had to serve coffee at the “branch headquarters.” I’m sure the female patrons ate up the atmosphere in Goddess Café Terrace.
Heh.
Nice! The Familia Café Terrace is off to a successful start! Then things quieted down during the week. Looks like they need more marketing. Or how about a surprise military attack at the Cherry Blossom Festival? It’s a food stall. Ami is enthusiastically on board with Hayato’s chuunibyou talk.
Shiragiku oversees baking spring cookies for the festival booth because she’s the best cook. Uh oh. Watch out for those liqueurs! Shiragiku should be okay if she doesn’t drink them. Right? Right!? Har. Hayato is learning how to manage Riho’s personality. Praise her management skills! The theme of Goddess Café Terrace, so far, is never to stop complimenting girls to manipulate them. No? That’s what I got out of Kouji Seo’s writing. Oho. Shiragiku hinted she had met Hayato before, but he interpreted her words as a reference to his blabbermouth grandmother. I wager it will be as sappy as learning to cook with preschooler Hayato.
Oh no! Shiragiku got drunk! From alcohol fumes! Uh oh. Is Riho jealous she didn’t spend time “baking cookies” with Hayato? Deep breath. Goddess Café Terrace must move a drunkenly rampaging Shiragiku toward Ami’s vicinity. Accidental ecchiness requires violent punishment from the Hero of Justice. Ahahaha! Ouka’s cherry blossom hairbands are extra stretchy! I approve of Shiragiku’s flowery pink bandeau top. Punishment time. Aw. Akane comforted Hayato with the cookie recipe she created with Grandma. Why didn’t she bring that up before? Because nobody asked her. Obviously.
The town of Goddess Café Terrace went all out for the Cherry Blossom Festival. Having a booth here is also advertising. Ami likes her armor upgrades. Aw. Ouka tired herself out putting together the spring versions of the café uniforms. Ack. Time for made-up drama with local punks. Hayato and the girls celebrated a successful two-pronged attack on customers. Thank you for giving us a glimpse into the upcoming melodrama.
Geh. Punks brought teenage bullying vandalism into the adult world. Of course. The delinquent is Fuwa’s grandson. Please, no. Ouka should not blame herself for provoking predatory behavior. Chuunibyou Hayato has a backup plan! Mobile Familia Café Terrace Type 0! It’s a food cart. The counterattack begins now! Riho is the master of Twi-, uh, social media hashtags.
The operation isn’t over yet. The Type 0 must return to base through a dangerous route! Goddess Café Terrace gave Ami her moment to shine as a Hero of Justice! Missile launch! Street Fighter references! Shoryuken! Watch out for Mad Dog Ouka! Tatsumaki Senpukyaku!
Next time, Akane plays music on her day off.
