Rent-a-Girlfriend (Kanojo, Okarishimasu) Season 3 is set to begin airing in July 2023. To alleviate that incredible wait, the fine studio adapting the series, TMS Entertainment, assembled a new teaser trailer that introduces Kazuya’s cosplaying social media influencer neighbor Mini Yaemori. The trailer also shows off the other girls, such as Chizuru Mizuhara, and Kazuya’s reactions when she’s being unintentionally cute and alluring.
TMS Entertainment has also maintained a home page and official Twitter page to advertise Rent-a-Girlfriend and to keep in touch with fans. Extras such as behind-the-scenes information and the key visual art below can be found there.
A New Girlfriend, One App Click Away
For those new to the series, Rent-a-Girlfriend is an apt title to describe the premise. After Kazuya Kinoshita is dumped by his girlfriend, he uses the Rent-a-Girlfriend app on his phone to hire someone as a stand-in and gets matched with Chizuru Mizuhara, a particularly alluring girl.
Kazuya didn’t like their first date and felt that Chizuru wasn’t putting in the right effort as his hired “girlfriend.” So he gave her a low rating, something she angrily brought up during their follow-up meeting. Rather than ending things right there, Kazuya received word that his grandmother collapsed, prompting him to visit her at the hospital, with his “girlfriend” accompanying him.
Kazuya’s grandmother is taken with the new woman in her grandson’s life, indirectly guilting him into continuing to rent Chizuru via the Rent-a-Girlfriend app. To make things more awkward and romantic for the sake of the plot, it turns out that they’re next-door neighbors.
Rent-a-Girlfriend Origins
Rent-a-Girlfriend began as a series written and illustrated by Reiji Miyajima. Kodansha began publishing the series on July 12th, 2017, and 30 volumes have been released for fans to purchase and read.
The anime adaptation began airing on July 11th, 2020, with TMS Entertainment taking up the task of animating the series. There are 24 episodes out thus far, but since the third season isn’t airing until July, there’s plenty of time to catch up.
There have been numerous adaptations and spinoffs besides the anime series, such as the manga series Rent-a-(Really Shy!)-Girlfriend that Kodansha began to publish on June 21st, 2020. A live-action series aired ten episodes from July 3rd, 2022, to September 25th, 2022.
Rent-a-Girlfriend received a mobile video game adaptation titled Kanojo, Okarishimasu Heroine All-Stars. It was a crossover game that used characters from other Kodansha titles, such as Fairy Tail, The Seven Deadly Sins, Domestic Girlfriend, Girlfriend, Girlfriend, Fire Force, Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, and Negima! Magister Negi Magi. The game ran from 2021 to 2023, and services have since ended.
