The fall anime season is quickly approaching and there are a ton of new and returning series vying for your attention. While many eyes will be pointed squarely towards the blockbusters such as Spy x Family and My Hero Academia Season Six, there is one series that I’ve written about before and already feel strongly that people should at least give a glance to titled Raven of the Inner Palace.
In a new two-minute promotional video, the crew behind this one introduces us to a bit more of the story. That’s along with samples of the opening (Mysterious performed by Queen Bee) and closing (Natsu no Yuki performed by krage) theme songs and some frankly beautiful character art that has me excited to see more.
Raven of the Inner Palace started as a light novel series written by Kōko Shirakawa and illustrated by Ayuko. The first volume was published in Japan in April 2018 and is up to seven volumes as of April 2022. Earlier this year, publisher Seven Seas announced plans to release the light novels in English, beginning in February 2023.
The anime adaptation will premiere on an already packed October 1st, 2022 (there are a total of ten anime series premiering that day, including the previously mentioned blockbusters, Spy x Family and My Hero Academia Season Six) with Bandai Namco Pictures producing the animation.
The crew for this adaptation has Chizuru Miyawaki as the director, Satoshi Ooshima in charge of the scripts, Shinji Takeuchi providing the character designs, and Asami Tachibana taking care of the background music.
Taking place in an alternate history of ancient China, the story centers on a royal concubine named Uki who is said to use mysterious magic that is capable of mundane things such as finding lost items or more sinister things such as inflicting curses. The real plot begins, however, when the emperor visits her and starts a series of events that will have a ripple effect on their world.
