Don’t forget to occasionally toss a peanut to your Anya Tamagotchi or else she might run away from home!
I’m old enough that I remember when Tamagotchi toys first appeared in the United States back in the distant past of 1997. Luckily, I resisted getting hooked on the fad, but here I am over 25 years later re-thinking my “No Tamagotchi” stance thanks to a new Anya edition being released by Bandai later this year.
The new Spy x Family themed toy will have you raising your own virtual psychic six-year-old starting this December and depending on how well you raise her (which includes feeding her regularly and playing games with her), you might be lucky enough to see Anya wear up to a half dozen different expressions (which includes her now trademark smug face) or, if you do a bad job with raising her, she’ll get the dreaded lines of depression and run away from home… which is honestly preferable to the usual outcome for neglected Tamagotchis which is death.
In addition to seeing her various facial expressions, you can also see Anya wear up to a dozen different outfits, including her Eden College school uniform among others (some of which have yet to be revealed).
Ready to raise your very own little Anya? You’ll have to wait until December and pay a cool 2,530-yen ($19.90 USD) for the privilege. At least you have the choice of carrying her around in either a pink or green egg, so that’s something.
Spy x Family has been absolutely tearing up the popularity charts this season and with a second cour headed our way later this year, it’s only going to continue to grow into the next anime juggernaut. If you haven’t already started on this action family comedy, don’t hesitate much longer unless you want to get left behind!
