Much like many other people this season, I’ve been absolutely enthralled with the weekly installments of the Forger family in Spy x Family. Soon, fans in Japan will get to enjoy Loid, Yor, and Anya in a brand new way as they have announced that the series will get a stage musical that will premiere in March 2023!
In the announcement, Toho Company Limited revealed that the musical, based on the hit manga series, will open its curtains at Tokyo’s Imperial Theatre in March 2023, which will be followed by a nationwide tour in April and May. Unfortunately, it’s still much too early for there to be any word on if they will stream it overseas, much like some other productions have in recent months.
There was also no word on who will play the main roles, though we can report that the role of the telepathic six-year-old Anya will be determined through an open audition. Think you or someone you know has what it takes to play what will surely be a show-stealing role? Well, fly on over to Japan because auditions are happening soon. There is no age requirement for the role but those who even want a shot at it will have to be between 70 cm and 100 cm tall, be able to act, sing, and dance well and be available for stage rehearsals in January and February 2023.
The deadline to submit applications for the role is June 17th, 2022, which will be followed by another audition in Tokyo on August 6th and 7th.
I’ve made absolutely no secret about how much I love Spy x Family and seeing it turned into a stage musical almost sounds too good to be true. Please Toho, for the love of all that is holy, bring this one overseas virtually! I know I am not alone when I say that I would pay a lot of my hard-earned money to watch this production!
