Chainsaw Man was one of the most popular manga last year and the announcement that an anime adaptation was forthcoming was the best possible news fans could receive. That, and the news that studio MAPPA would be handling the animation.
While current events and the Winter anime backlog meant studios, including MAPPA, were focused on other projects, we now have a potential idea of when we’ll get to see the Chainsaw Man anime in action. Our main evidence concerns MAPPA’s upcoming anniversary. MAPPA’s 10th-anniversary event is currently scheduled for June 27th at J: COM Hall. Chainsaw Man is on the event schedule as a talk, and while that wouldn’t raise too many eyebrows, the anime’s website also contains links to MAPPA’s event schedule.
While there’s no real guarantee we’ll get a formal trailer or other visuals from the anime itself, it definitely feels promising, given that Chainsaw Man’s manga editor Hayashi Shihei and MAPPA President Manabu Otsuka will be involved. At a bare minimum, there may just be a concrete date on the anime’s release along with other related news, and a general conversation on the manga’s success. Either way, it’ll definitely be something for fans of both Chainsaw Man and MAPPA to get excited over. For those that didn’t hop onto the Chainsaw Man hype train last year, and want to figure out if this show might be their speed, the premise of the show is as follows:
“Denji’s a poor young man who’ll do anything for money, even hunting down devils with his pet devil-dog Pochita. He’s a simple man with simple dreams, drowning under a mountain of debt. But his sad life gets turned upside down one day when he’s betrayed by someone he trusts. Now with the power of a devil inside him, Denji’s become a whole new man—Chainsaw Man!”
While the series is gore-heavy, Denji being a relatable and heartbreaking protagonist makes it worth it to try and see him succeed. Factor in the cuteness of devil-dog Pochita, and it’s a match made in Hell! With any luck, the event will give fans more answers and definitely give them something to get revved up about.
