The second season of The Quintessential Quintuplets (Gotoubun no Hanayome) may have just ended, (I hope I’m not spoiling anything when I tell you the indecisive main character Fuutarou Uesugi didn’t choose the best girl Miku… yet!), but the anime’s official Twitter account announced immediately afterward that they had greenlit a sequel anime. They published a key visual and a short promotional video.

As we can see, the visual style of The Quintessential Quintuplets will carry on with Bibury Animation Studio, who took over from Tezuka Productions after the first season aired in 2019. The anime is an adaptation of the manga by Negi Haruba, who recently concluded the Battle of the Five Waifus, er, The Quintessential Quintuplets this past February 2021.
I am an anime-only fan, so I don’t know what the manga source has in store for us, but I have a concern on how much material in The Quintessential Quintuplets remains for Bibury Animation Studio to animate. The first season and much of the second season covered the Nakano sisters revealing their personalities and how Fuutarou needed to figure out their academic strengths and their preferred modes of learning. As the second season ended, The Quintessential Quintuplets became a full-throated waifu war with Fuutarou becoming the most interesting character as he recalled his past with one of the sisters and suddenly rediscovered GIRLS ARE SEXY.
If there’s not much patience for the convoluted harem dynamics of Nisekoi, then The Quintessential Quintuplets will have a sequel movie or OVA. On the other hand, if we don’t mind Fuutarou being utterly clueless about who is his one true waifu and the audience receives more fanservice to the fifth power as the Nakano sisters unleash Waifu War III on his dumb head, then we might get a full season.
What do you think? Will we get a The Quintessential Quintuplets movie? A full season? An animated harem ending scene in Fuutarou’s first wet dream? Let us know in the comments, but please, manga readers, no spoilers!
Both seasons of The Quintessential Quintuplets stream on Funimation, Crunchyroll, and VRV.
