While I don’t know a lot about this title, information about a new Silver Link produced isekai titled The Dungeon of Black Company might be the perfect way to chase away the winter chills.
Set to premiere in July 2021, the series will feature animation from Silver Link (Baka and Test, BOFURI) with Mirai Minato (Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, Masamune-kun’s Revenge) serving as director working off series composition composed by Deko Akao (Arakawa Under the Bridge, Flying Witch, If My Favorite Pop Idol Made it to the Budokan, I Would Die). Yuki Sawairi (Wise Man’s Grandchild, Masamune-kun’s Revenge) will provide the character designs.
Bringing these characters to life will be (character names first):
Kinji Ninomiya: Katsuyuki Konishi
Rim: Misaki Kuno
Wanibe: Hiro Shimono
Originally a manga created by Yōhei Yasumura, The Dungeon of Black Company has been serialized on the Mag Comi website since 2016. It’s been collected in five volumes in Japan thus far, with an English version being released by Seven Seas who describe the story as:
Kinji, who lacks any kind of work ethic, is a layabout in his modern life. One day, he finds himself transported to another world — but not in a grand fantasy of a hero welcomed with open arms. He’s immediately shoved into a terrible job! Now enslaved by an evil mining company in a fantasy world, Kinji’s about to really learn the meaning of hard work!
On a recent podcast, I described Silver Link as a “go-to” studio for moe series, and judging by the key visual seen above, this series will not stray too far from the beaten path. It’s another isekai, but at least this time the twist is that the main character isn’t an overpowered titan.
At this point, I’m reserving judgment until I see a promotional video. There’s certainly potential here, but without reading the manga, it’s impossible to judge based on the available information.
