After Akira shares a private moment with you during a typhoon, she also shares news that could change your peaceful high school days together.
Episode 3 – “Kotokawa Akira Can’t Say It”
Hmm.
The writing for One Room is tight. It needs to be, because its world only exists in the eyes of the first-person perspective main character and the voice of his love interest. Each episode only has three minutes’ worth of time too. So, it’s a problem for One Room to write itself out of two high school kids kissing each other in the dark when one of them is practically naked. One Room is all about teasing romance, not love scenes.
That’s why I enjoyed Akira’s mother calling her to block the two kids from kissing. One Room isn’t a comedy or a soap opera, so the usual slapstick elements of clumsiness or romantic drama elements of sudden accidents couldn’t work because those actions would bring in other characters. A phone call from a worried mother felt natural and fit the circumstances of a typhoon.
I paid attention to that small plot point because it was the best clue to how many episodes One Room would devote to Akira. The cliffhanger and the resolution at the start of this episode meant the satisfying emotional conclusion to this little love story would happen next week. That’s good, because the main issue of Akira’s family moving around a lot needed to reach its maximum dramatic tension before “you” and the beautiful junior reach a satisfying ending.
Heh.
Here it comes! Is One Room going to give us a real kissing scene? And nooo! Mama’s blocking the lip-locking! Typhoon passed but not Akira’s need for smoochies. Smoochies now! Starry night. “You” and her alone. Wuss. Aw geez. The foreshadowing paid off. Akira is moving away. “Your” time together is only the rest of summer vacation.
“You” talked about harvesting plans in the gardening club’s one room, so here’s Akira making that plan come true. I can’t believe “you” made a pure maiden handle cutting eggplants… Does Akira not know what the eggplant emoji means on Twitter? I hope not. “You” need to protect her innocent smile, heathen.
Ugh. I don’t want to hear how much Akira enjoyed the Gardening Club when she’s going to be leaving in a couple of weeks. This is goodbye? Already! The next episode of One Room needs to have a happy conclusion, somehow.
Akira wakes up from a nap while she waited for “you” in the end card. Notice the drool on the pillow…
