Beast Complex Makes Sure the BEASTARS World Lives On

Paru Itagaki’s smash hit manga BEASTARS finally ended in Japan earlier this month. Fans in the West have quite a bit of time to wait until the rest of the English volumes come our way, as VIZ has only currently serialized 9 of the 21 volumes that make up the series. Also waiting in the wings for fans is the second season of the Netflix official anime, slated to come out next year. But if all that hasn’t managed to be a balm for the wound that is a lack of relatable anthropomorphic animals and a cute relationship between a wolf and a rabbit, then this next bit of news should surely fix that.

Itagaki’s first manga and the inspiration for BEASTARS, Beast Complex will get a re-serialization in Weekly Shonen Champion in January of next year. It’s not yet known if the continuation of Beast Complex will mean the continuation of stories and character arcs for our favorite BEASTARS characters, or if it will continue being a collection of unrelated one-shots, much like the original chapters. Weekly Shonen Champion originally serialized both the beginning of Beast Complex and BEASTARS, though the last few chapters of Beast Complex were serialized in Bessatu Shonen Champion.

Additionally, VIZ Media announced that they’ll be releasing a collection of the first seven chapters of Beast Complex on March 16th of next year. While the announcement was originally made during VIZ’s virtual Anime Expo Lite panel back in July, the ending of the BEASTARS manga and the re-serialization of Beast Complex makes this news more relevant than ever. The collection will be made available both in print and digitally and can be preordered from Amazon.

While Legosi and Haru’s story is over, for the time being, it’ll be nice to know that the complex and intriguing world of BEASTARS gets to live on just a little bit longer.
