Funimation and anime studio J.C. Staff are cooking up something big and musical together!
In an announcement posted to the official Funimation blog on Thursday, September 10th, it was revealed that the two companies will be teaming up to co-produce a new anime movie titled Sing a Bit of Harmony. The movie is set to be released to theaters in Japan next year, with the US and Canada release to follow soon afterward.
Now that we’ve seen a little peek at the movie, let’s talk about the primary crew that will help bring this movie to life!
The award-winning Yasuhiro Yoshiura (Time of Eve) will serve as the director and primary writer of the movie at studio J.C. Staff. (Food Wars, A Certain Magical Index). Ichirou Ohkouchi (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion) will help as a co-screenwriter. They’ll be working off character designs created by Kanna Ki (The Stranger by the Beach). Unfortunately, we know absolutely nothing about the story or the voice cast so far. But, if I had to put money on the table, I’d say that music is going to play a big part in this movie’s theme.
This is, of course, is not the first time that Funimation has signed on as a co-producer of an anime title. We’ve reported before on the J-List blog about Funimation’s co-productions including Mars Red and By the Grace of the Gods (both of which are coming very soon) so this is becoming fairly standard practice.
If this early promotional video is anything to go by though, Sing a Bit of Harmony will be something to pay attention to over the next few months, so please stay tuned to the J-List blog for more details. As they become available we’ll be sure to let you know.
