Uzaki’s mother, Tsuki, meets Sakurai when he comes to visit and gets the wrong impression about him.
Episode 9 – “Tsuki Uzaki Wants a Thrill?”
Hmm.
I have been waiting all season to see how Uzaki-chan would portray Tsuki Uzaki since I saw her in the opening credits, and I was not disappointed. Yes, she hit all the usual “ara-ara” MILF notes, but her best parts, besides her biggest parts, are her excitable, squirmy reactions to hoping Sakurai is interested in her. The way Ami described how the mothers who came to the Asia Café explained everything we saw with Tsuki. It’s great that the audience hears the internal monologue of a mature, married woman wanting a young stud’s attention but knowing it’s wrong. Tsuki is too impressionable and her wrong impressions are coming from her favorite soap opera.
I enjoyed how Uzaki-chan tied this middle-aged lady’s fantasies about Sakurai back to how observant the Asais are in their people watching. As soon as Tsuki quietly asked about Sakurai’s “preferences,” they both knew exactly what was going on inside Tsuki’s head. It was a neat scene because it showed the generational difference between Ami and Master Asai. Ami called regular customers “fans” of their waitstaff, emphasizing how Sakurai has motherly fans. Master Asai emphasized the customer service aspect of being attentive to their needs like how Uzaki played with the children. Ami’s later suggestion of theme days for the café was not a surprise, because if someone has fans, then they could act like idols putting on a cosplay show for them. Thankfully, Master Asai still wants to run a coffee shop instead of a maid and butler café.
Heh.
Ooh! Uzaki Mama! Nice mature voice acting here. Uh oh. The soap opera has foreshadowing! Is a young man serious about an older married woman? I see the source of Sakurai’s misfortunes and misunderstandings with Tsuki. Yay! She gives good “ara.”
Confirmed. Sakurai is visiting Mrs. Uzaki to give back the change from buying his replacement futon. Oh. Uzaki-chan won’t accept the money, so he insists on giving it back to her mom. Ah, poor Sakurai. He’s never visited a girl’s house before. What was his high school life like? He was a stud on the swimming team, but I guess his scary eyes made other girls beside Uzaki avoid him. Ha! He’s all better when he knows he can pet cats all he wants. Oh, does this mean Uzaki lives at home while going to university?
Tsuki was only 23 years old when she had Hana? Sakurai better hurry up and get with the loud short stack. Eh? Did Hana never tell her mom that Sakurai was a boy? Well, if all she ever called him was “Senpai,” then that’s believable. His fierce eyes gave Tsuki a thrill. He’s spotted the cats. Time for petting! Tsuki is so excitable.
Haha. Tsuki sits so far away from Sakurai. The volume of her voice changed too! Uzaki-chan liked the sound of “Hana-san.” Tsuki-mama is understandably angry that the “senior at college” who took care of her drunk girl self on her birthday was a dude and it was at his apartment. Sakurai wants to hear more of Tsuki’s complaints about Uzaki. They’re bonding!
Uh oh. This is a good comedy setup. He’s far away from Tsuki, interested in cats, and likes looking at them. If a cat sits on Tsuki’s lap and her boobs hang that low, guess what it seems like Sakurai is looking at. He’s totally interested in her chest! Who wouldn’t be? Oh snap. She suggested Sakurai wants both her and Uzaki-chan. Well, if she insists on oyakodon, should Sakurai refuse? “No chance” of approaching Sakurai yet. We’ll see about that. Yup. Tsuki’s misimpression of Sakurai ended up in a weird place.
Yay, more Tsuki! She’s at the Asia Café watching Uzaki-chan work. Oops. Sakurai is here too. How’s her sexy misimpression going to work here? What… Tsuki complained about Ami being young. Fun. Little kids like their “Hana-chan.” Oh ho. Ami explains why the mothers of those little kids keep coming back. Those fierce eyes! There it is! Tsuki asked the Asais if he likes older women or married women. They picked up on that flag right away. The Asais claim Sakurai is no cougar hunter. Tsuki isn’t ready to give up on her fantasies, though. Good! More comedy to come.
Here it comes. People shouldn’t eavesdrop, especially if you try to eavesdrop on the Japanese language. If you did, you could be like Tsuki mistaking coffee beans for beautiful women that Sakurai wants to taste. The music here is hilarious. It sounds like harem high jinks are about to start. Tsuki-mama has it bad.
Kick it! Hana-chan Li destroys Saku-ryo. Loser gets drinks. Uh oh. Sakurai paid a compliment to Uzaki’s mom. Jealousy levels rise higher. Now Uzaki-chan wants to be quiet and kind like Tsuki. Uzaki’s look of concentration appears more like glaring. Tsuki loves this soap opera with the married woman and younger man. That bath is too steamy. Uzaki prepares the oyakodon!
Creepy! Uzaki-chan speaks and acts like Tsuki-mama. Ami treats Sakurai like a bad cat. Splash him with water for discipline! Uzaki is just giving Sakurai what he asked for. Doesn’t he like it? Ami is too much of an otaku. Master Asai does not like the idea of theme days for his coffee shop.
Sakurai offers total surrender. Uzaki’s flawless victory. Wait. Sakurai slipped in a compliment at the end. Double knockout! No fighting! Brave child. It is NOT a lover’s quarrel! She even gives them a lottery ticket to help them make up. Uzaki-chan can barely hide her smile at how Sakurai “likes her usual self.” Winner! Two-night trip for two to Tottori! Vacationing together already. These two, doing things out of order.
Ha. They’re in the real Conan Airport at Tottori. Detective Conan is everywhere. There’s even a mystery afoot. Who are those shadowy pursuers? Obviously, they’re Ami and Sakaki.
Next time, Uzaki and Sakurai hang out in Tottori.
Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! streams on Funimation.
