It’s a good day when two of your favorite things mash together in glorious harmony. For me, that happens when action figures and the universe of Warhammer 40,000 meet, and it looks like I’ve just hit the jackpot. Games Workshop recently announced that their partnership with Japanese toymaker Bandai will be producing two new Intercessor Space Marine action figures, to follow their hugely successful but limited-edition Ultramarines Intercessor action figure.
The new line represents two hugely popular Space Marine chapters from the galaxy at war, with the sons of Dorn and Vulkan’s loyal, an Imperial Fists and Salamander Intercessor.
Each figure comes with three pairs of hands, accessories for purging Xenos, and 53 points of articulation. They stand 8 inches tall and fight for the good of Mankind.
If all of this sounds like a great addition to your figure collection, then look sharp. Games Workshop states on their website that pre-orders will open on the 12th of September and will only be open for a week. The figures will be made to order by Bandai and delivered next year.
This release follows Games Workshops’ first collaboration with the Japanese toy giant Bandai, which previously released the Ultramarines Intercessor action figure. The window for that was similarly short, and I can hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth from those who missed that last opportunity over my own lament.
At 8 inches, these action figures are a fair bit bigger than most of what you’ll get from Games Workshop. The wargaming company, out of Nottingham, England, is probably best known for their Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Age of Sigmar, and Warhammer Fantasy properties, which have spawned a host of video games (Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, Warhammer: Vermintide, Total War: Warhammer), novels, comics, and even a movie (Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie). All of this is impressive, considering that the company’s focus is on tabletop wargames.
Bandai probably needs less of an introduction here, since they’re the company behind Digimon, Mobile Suit Gundam, and Tamagochi. The Tokyo based company is one of the largest toy producers in the world, and if you’ve ever dropped money on a Gundam plastic model kit, it was probably one of theirs.
All we need now for this perfect synergy is an Attack on Titan level Warhammer 40,000 anime. Which studio do you think would do the best work with that?
