If you’ve been following our coverage of the manga series Tonikaku Kawaii getting an anime adaptation, we’re about to absolutely make your day!
Not only do we have a brand new 30-second promotional video to show you, but we can also now confirm that the series will premiere this October on Crunchyroll!
Director Hiroshi Ikehata will team up with studio Seven Arcs and writer Kazuho Hyodo for the fall 2020 television series. Additional crew members include Masakatsu Sasaki designing the characters and “Endō.” composing the background music.
In the starring voice roles will be Akari Kito as the female lead, Tsukasa, while Junya Enoki will play the male lead, Nasa.
The name of the anime has been changed multiple times. Originally titled Tonikaku Kawaii, which is literally translated as “Generally Cute,” the first known title for the anime was Fly Me to the Moon and now, in an update, it has the official title ToniKawa: Over the Moon for You. Kenjiro Hata originally created the series in early 2018 when it began running in Weekly Shonen Sunday. It has eleven volumes in print in Japan as of May 2020. In February 2020, Viz Media announced that it had licensed the series and would release it in English starting in the fall of 2020.
The story of ToniKawa follows a student named Nasa Yuzaki who is saved by a young woman on the day of his high school entrance exams. Falling in love with her instantly, Nasa asks the girl, Yuzaki Tsukasa, to be his girlfriend. She replies that she’ll only be his girlfriend if they get married, at which point they part ways… until Nasa’s 18th birthday when Yuzaki reappears with a marriage certificate. Thus begins their life together.
I’ve been pretty ecstatic about this anime ever since we first reported on it, so this is welcome news on an otherwise dreary day!
