Sailor Moon is ready to protect you from sexually transmitted diseases!
It was recently announced on the official Sailor Moon website that special Sailor Moon themed condoms will be distributed on two days in October; Saturday, October 5th in Fukuoka and Monday, October 14th in Hiroshima. The campaign is a collaboration between the iconic character and various organizations which promote sexual disease awareness as it has become quite an issue among young Japanese people over the last few years.
I should note that this is not the first time that Sailor Moon has promoted good sexual health. In 2016, Sailor Moon condoms were distributed though the campaign received a mixed reaction from those who adored the series and the character while growing up. While some people applauded the campaign and its mission, there were some who felt that Sailor Moon was not a proper mascot for the cause.
This year’s condoms will only be produced in limited numbers so if you’re in Japan this month and you want one for personal use, you’ll want to hurry to one of the above locations to secure your piece of memorabilia.
Sailor Moon is a treasured piece of anime history that first started as a manga in Nakayoshi magazine in 1991. It was eventually compiled into eighteen volumes which were published in Japan from 1992 to 1997. It eventually was adapted into one of the most successful multimedia franchises ever with multiple television anime, movies, and OVAs being produced. Then you have to factor in all the video games, music albums, theme park attractions, and more being created over the next couple of decades.
Sailor Moon will always remain a beloved part of Japanese pop culture history for fans all around the world. Hopefully, this campaign achieves its goal of protecting young people when they are ready to climb between the sheets with their special someone!
