Our favorite death metal singing, office working red panda is returning for a third season!
On August 4 at the Taiwan Comic Exhibition, Netflix revealed that Aggretsuko would be returning for a third season on the streaming site at an undisclosed later date. The series will see the return of Rareko sitting in the director’s chair along with animation produced by studio Fanworks.
If you’re unfamiliar with Aggretsuko (known in Japan as “Aggressive Retsuko”), you’ve been missing out on one of the best and most relatable series to be released in recent history, thanks to its charming characters and grounded plotlines which speaks to young adults who are just trying to survive their daily lives.
The series centers on a red panda named Retsuko who lives a boring, dreary, and frustrating life as an office worker in Japan. While she has some friends at work, she’s mostly just going through the motions in her daily life and trying to survive as best she can. In the first season, Retsuko deals with a misogynistic boss and a very aloof boyfriend who can’t be bothered about much of anything. The only thing that keeps Retsuko sane is her favorite hobby: death metal karaoke.
In the second season, the primary focus is the idea of getting married thanks to a well-meaning but very overbearing mother. Eventually, while taking driving lessons, she meets a mysterious new man who has more going on in his life than Retsuko actually realizes.
So far, two full seasons and a Christmas special have been released on Netflix. The first season, which was announced in December 2017, was released worldwide in April 2018. The second season was released the following year in June 2019 with the Christmas special released in between the two seasons, in December 2018.
No word yet on when the third season will be dropped on Netflix, but keep checking back for more details as they are made available.
