Another series I’ve been enjoying during quarantine has been the currently airing Tsugu Tsugumomo, the second season to 2017’s supernatural-harem-and-ecchi show about a boy named Kazuya who discovers that the obi (kimono belt) his mother gave him long ago actually contained a feisty spirit named Kiriha, who materializes and starts living with him. In each episode, Kazukya and his supernatural sidekick must do battle with various spirits that threaten the school, aided by a harem of various sexy side characters, as you can pretty much imagine. Oh, and fanservice…lots of fanservice.
My first impression was that Tsugumomo was something like the classic Urusei Yatsura, but with a focus on a non-perverted main character and traditional Shinto-esque themes instead of space aliens.
I do my anime watching at the end of the day. While sometimes I’m up for something uplifting and inspiring that will challenge my mind, at other times I’m tired and just want to turn my brain off and watch something fun. The cute characters, low-stress (yet visually pleasing) battles and increasingly ridiculous sexual situations presented in Tsugumomo are definitely a pleasant way to relax and wind down at the end of the day.
Are you watching Tsugumomo second season? I love how ecchi it is. The scene where Sunao’s mother was trying to force Kazuya to deflower her daughter to prove they were really dating was very entertaining. pic.twitter.com/Hnkt9Q6GmE

The fun part of fanservice-heavy shows — which some fans insist on labeling “ecchi,” which they consider to be a completely separate genre from non-sexual “anime” and fully hardcore “hentai,” though I disagree — is the challenge for creators to come up with sufficiently clever erotic situations that can hold fans’ imagination, and it can be a lot of work. Any show can have a pantyshot here or there, but the best ecchi series like Bokuben, Strike Witches, Kiss x Sis and Tsugumomo really shine when it comes to creating fresh and new sexy situations for the characters to find themselves in. Like the hilarious scene above, where Sunao’s mother is obsessed with making sure her daughter is deflowered, which was from episode 2.
If you’re looking for an ecchi anime to take some of the cares of the world off your shoulders, I think you should give Tsugumomo (either or both seasons) a chance!
