Infections are bad, I think we can all agree on that. Nobody enjoys getting colds or flus or a heaping helping of Ebola. What if we did, though? What if there was a virus out there that everyone was actually pretty into? MEME50 has crafted a volume of work that tries to explore that very idea with Heat Alert. Over the course of 12 chapters and 206 pages, we’re treated to a variety of stories all revolving around a simple premise. What happens when a virus breaks out that makes women crazy horny?
Meme50 is, hands down, one of my favorite artists. He draws a wide variety of body types, yet they’re all equally gorgeous and finely detailed. Some of the girls in this book have petite bodies and small chests, where Meme50 does an incredible job drawing their athletic hips and tight stomachs. Other girls are large and plump, with realistic curves, gorgeous bellies and the thickest thighs you’ve ever seen. Meme50s work is further amplified thanks to the uncensored nature of the book. He puts exquisite detail into the male and female anatomy of every page and being able to see it all without any pixels or black bars is an absolute treat.
The incredible artwork of Meme50 is further amplified when it’s rendered in full-color. Every colored cover illustration in Heat Alert is simply jaw-dropping, with crisp colors, detailed hair and soft lights that accentuate all of the curves on his characters. There’s a 4-page full-color mini-chapter at the beginning of the book that sets up the events of the Heat Alert series, and it’s a treat. The coloring work is a slight step down from what we get in the cover illustrations, but it still adds a wonderful extra layer to some already amazing illustrations.
The first 7 chapters of Heat Alert are a set of anthology stories taking place in the Heat Alert series. All of these stories involve the recent outbreak of a virus called the Estrus Virus, which mysteriously only affects women. It causes them to give in to their sexual desires and crave sex wherever they are, with whoever they’re with. This leads to plenty of wild and erotic encounters, but they’re always played up with a bit of humor. Meme50 understands the cartoonish absurdity of this premise, so even the more risque premises are played up with a bit of humor and silliness.
One of my favorites in the series is the first full chapter. In “Heat Alert: Virus Outbreak!”, the Estrus Virus has yet to begin infecting women around the country. Instead, it’s only affecting domesticated pets like dogs and cats. A beautiful and curvy veterinarian with glasses is fascinated by the outbreak and, in researching it, realizes that she hasn’t had any action in ages. Being so hot and bothered, she realizes she’s alone in the office with her young assistant Oshikawa-kun, and decides to enlist his help to break her dry spell.
The next 6 chapters of Heat Alert, meanwhile, are individual stories totally separate from the Heat Alert universe, simply giving us a handful of horny stories with new characters and settings. Despite not falling under the Heat Alert series, these chapters are still just as entertaining and high quality as the others. Similar to the Heat Alert series, these stories have a great mix of humor and levity throughout that make them plenty of fun to read through and add a great layer of personality to the characters involved.
In “How TO Get A 100% Discount”, a beautiful and full-bodied woman is at the beach shopping for swimsuits in a small and otherwise empty surf shop. She’s a little short on cash, though, and decides to try and butter up the young man working the register to try and get a discount. When he staunchly refuses to give in, she teases him a bit more by trying on some skimpy swimsuits in front of him. Eventually, though, he caves in and decides to get back at her for all the teasing she’s been doing. They start out absolutely despising each other, but the way their dynamic shifts and develops over the course of the chapter is a lot of fun.
Heat Alert caps off with a special chapter set in the Heat Alert universe. Tachikawa Tomoko is a plain and serious looking professor, but her male students still fawn over her every day due to her massive tits. She’s got a handsome boyfriend who she sees every day, but when the Estrus Virus infects her, she slips away from her boyfriend to spend some quality time with her students. It’s short and sweet, but it’s a nice bonus for owners of the book that might have seen all the other chapters before and wanted something new.
While the book ends with a standard artist afterword, there’s also a one-page manga-style commentary on the book from Meme50 himself, where he talks through some of the design decisions and experiences he went through making each of the chapters. There aren’t many other extras in the book, so it’s a nice way to add a little something to the package. You get insight into some behind-the-scenes workings of hentai manga editing and also get weird little bonus facts about characters from the book.
Overall, Heat Alert is an incredible collection. Meme50 is one of the most talented artists in the scene, and he’s put together a jam-packed collection of material that never falters in quality. The art is astounding, the characters are fun, and the stories are memorable, so you absolutely owe it to yourself to pick this book up.
