Could this be the end of an era for the popular blogging platform?
Tumblr recently announced that they will be banning all adult content effective from December 17. Aside from this, any related content that does not fit Tumblr’s community standards will immediately be reported and removed.
Since 2007, Tumblr has been a safe haven for many users, like anime fans, to share content on the things that they love like screenshots, fan art, gifs, song covers, and so on.
As years go by, it has also been one of the best sites to share lewd and R-18 fanart without being restricted and reported. Tumblr has also been a site where people from different fandom communities come together to share, interact, and collaborate. On the other side, it has been infamous for having users posting exaggerated comments and analyses on series or fandoms in which causes rifts and sudden “fandom wars”.
On November 16 2018, Apple removed the Tumblr app from its app store after reports of the site containing child pornography. As of this time, the app has not been made available since and its recent statement says that they are still resolving this issue.
With this popular microblogging platform now putting a banhammer on adult content (regardless if some users put up NSFW warnings and disclaimers), anime fans who would want to share related art and content on Tumblr might no longer be able to do so.
