COVID-19 has struck the Jura Tempest Federation! Well I mean, kind of.
When we last checked in with That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, we were treated to the announcement that the second season was scheduled to start before the end of the year with the spinoff series, The Slime Diaries, following very soon afterward. Sadly, that is no longer the case. In an announcement posted to the light novel’s official website, it was revealed that the second season and spinoff series have been delayed until 2021.
According to the announcement, the blame lies squarely on the state of emergency that Japan has been under for the last several weeks. The new schedule for the two series has the first half of the second season starting in January 2021, The Slime Diaries in April 2021, and the second half of season two in July 2021.
Studio 8-Bit will return to produce the animation for both the primary story’s second season and The Slime Diaries, though there will be a new crew handling the spinoff. Yuji Ikuhara will direct the series working off scripts supervised by Kotatsumikan. Character designs are being provided by Risa Takai and Atsushi Irie, while R.O.N will compose the background music.
The manga series originally launched in 2018 and is being released in English by Kodansha, who describes the story as:
“Dear diary… I got reincarnated as a slime.”
Even in another world, lives aren’t always on the line. There’s plenty of work to be done, from feeding the community and forging the items the community needs; as well as plenty of play …and hijinks throughout! Join Rimuru and friends as they kick back and enjoy their daily lives.
This is a sad blow for the many fans around the world who were looking forward to the new adventures of Rimuru but hopefully, people are understanding and can be patient for just a little bit longer.
