🎶Transformers: More than meets the eye.
Transformers: Robots in dis-guiiiiiise. 🎶
If you were around me as a young child, there was no way you were escaping a conversation about the Transformers franchise. I was obsessed with this franchise in my early childhood years and would consume whatever material I could find on television, in comic book shops, and, more importantly, toy stores! However, as I grew older and the cartoon series came to a close, I moved on from the franchise and found new things to become obsessed with.
That doesn’t change the fact that the series and the movie (which, parenthetically, is getting a theatrical re-release in North America later this month if you’d forgotten) hold a very special place in my heart as it helped propel me forward into being the full-fledged geek I am today as an adult.
So you’ll have to understand why I’m so excited to report that the original Transformers cartoon has been uploaded to the official Hasbro YouTube channel! I repeat, you can now watch the first season of Transformers for free on YouTube as of right now! The entire first season is available now, with three more seasons set to be released throughout the rest of September.

It’s difficult to put into words what this series meant to me growing up. While I assume that most aspects of the series have not aged gracefully (just watching the opening credits of episode one told me that much), I can’t help but feel happy inside knowing that an entirely new generation of giant, transforming robot fans are going to get to experience this whether it’s by choice or because someone older in their life is going to sit them down and force them to watch the show from start to finish.
While I might not re-watch the entire series, I can easily see myself popping in an episode or two whenever I need a little silly entertainment involving giant sentient robots who crash-landed into Earth millions of years ago only to be awakened by a volcano which causes them to restart their eternal war.
This is the perfect addition to the recent news that Niantic is going to release a Transformers AR mobile game, and that Renegade Game Studios is releasing a Transformers Roleplaying Game. Perhaps we’re about to see a Transformers renaissance?
