Famed visual novel studio Nitroplus is coming back with a new game! That’s the good news. The bad news is that other than the title, Dolls Nest, and a teaser trailer, we know very little about this game. To the speculation machine!
Here’s what we know. According to reports on Gematsu and Anime News Network, they will release the game for the PC on Steam. Nitroplus is getting the credit for production. Meanwhile, Nitro Arts (formerly known as Nitroplusarts) will handle the planning and graphics production. The teaser trailer above hints at a dystopian world and a female main character who has mechanical parts.
At the same time as the game’s announcement, Nitroplus president Takaki Kosaka stated on X/Twitter that this is Nitroplus’ first in-house game in a while. Is that an indication that this title will be more than just a visual novel, or will the production studio stick with what brought them to the dance? Only they know and they aren’t telling.
Background
Nitroplus has spent the last 23 years developing a reputation for dark, sometimes erotic stories with difficult-to-stomach themes and visuals. Starting with Phantom of Inferno in 2000, Nitroplus has released numerous titles alone and in conjunction with other studios, including Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate. Other popular titles released by Nitroplus include Saya no Uta, Full Metal Daemon: Muramasa, and Guilty Crown.
Along with visual novels and eroge, Nitroplus has also dipped its toes into light novels by teaming up with Type/Moon to produce Fate/Zero. They also host an annual music festival, Nitro Super Sonico, with the busty Super Sonico character serving as the mascot.
Remember: the holidays are coming up and if you have a visual novel fan on your gift list, we stock tons of Nitroplus games in the J-List store including the above-mentioned Saya no Uta!
