My Hero Academia recently celebrated 100 television episodes with a brand new key visual, but that was last week. This week we’re looking forward to the brand new movie set to hit theaters in Japan on August 6th!
In the new promotional video, they reveal the primary story beats in the form of an evil organization that has set bombs all over the world. Heroes from all over are dispatched to areas around the world in order to find the bombs. The stars of this movie will be Izuku, Bakugo, and Todoroki who befriend a boy living in a mobile home in their designated area. As an added bonus for the first one million fans who see this movie in theaters, they’ll receive a special manga volume.
My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: World Heroes’ Mission is the third movie adaptation from the My Hero Academia universe, with the first two being Two Heroes (released in 2018) and Heroes Rising (released in 2019). For the third movie, all the cast and crew are returning to reprise their roles including the original creator, Kohei Horikoshi, serving as supervisor and providing the original character designs.
The one thing about the promotional video that I’m really curious about isn’t anything involving the evil organization that wants to blow up the world. That’s just shonen villain antics 101. What really caught my attention was in the first few seconds when the newscaster was talking while the headline read Izuku was wanted for mass murder. Come again now?
Of all the characters from My Hero Academia to be wanted for such a serious and heinous crime like that, young Izuku Midoriya is not who I would peg for that role. Now I want to see this movie simply to get some explanation on that and I know I can’t be alone in that.
