Despite it being listed as one of the worst isekai ever, I still really enjoyed the first season of How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord. Yes, it’s a fan service festival, but I still enjoyed the humor and story a lot. With the second season set to premiere on April 8th, Funimation has posted a subtitled promotional video that fills us in on what we can expect from season two.
As the J-List blog has previously reported, there are some fans (i.e. me) who are concerned about the fact that the crew is being shaken up for the second season. Aiji-Do Animation is out and Tezuka Productions and Okuru to Noboru are in as the animation production studios. Yuta Murano is out as director and Satoshi Kuwabara is in.
Luckily for everyone, the cast for all the characters remain the same and we also will have a few new characters played by (character names first):
Lumachina Weselia: Miku Ito
Rose: Aoi Koga
Horn: Fumiko Uchimura
Fanis Laminitus: Chinatsu Akasaki
Originally a light novel series written by Yukiya Murasaki and illustrated by Takahiro Tsurusaki, How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord has been running in Japan since December 2014. The novels are currently being published in English by J-Novel Club. The first anime adaptation aired in 2018, with Funimation streaming the series as it aired.
As I stated in the introduction, I really enjoyed this series when it aired and have actually gone back to it multiple times when I need an energy boost. The duality displayed by Diablo is a fun personality trait and makes for great comedy throughout the run of the series. How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord might not have the highest ratings on the internet, but I’ll always unironically enjoy this one. In a world over-saturated in token isekai, this one will always be my breath of fresh air.
