War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, a long-running mobile game with its long-running name shortened to War of the Visions FFBE for this announcement, has a history of strange and fun collaborations that no one saw coming. Last year, Tomb Raider‘s Lara Croft entered the arena, and her pistols were put to good use. Now, the titular Fullmetal Alchemist, his brother, his mini-skirt-chasing superior, and their enemy are following suit.
Edward Elric, who still gets the short end of the stick, Alphonse Elric, Roy Mustang, and King Bradley enter the fray as playable units in the game. As explained earlier in a developer update video, Edward comes free when a player logs into the game. But the other three units must be summoned via their gacha system. Their announcement tweet also provided key art and confirmation that Ed would come free. They don’t charge; he’s the shortest unit of the collaboration.

The lineup is a bit light, though. A bit uneven. Fullmetal Alchemist has a ton of great characters. Lust and Riza Hawkeye could mow down enemies like the perfect waifus that they are. Olivier Armstrong can go blade-to-blade with King Bradley any day of the week. Heck! Even Winry could have just whacked enemies with a wrench while healing allies. My point is there’s no Fullmetal Waifus in this collaboration.
Since this is a free-to-play gacha game, only Edward Elric comes for free. Alphonse, Roy, and Bradley must be summoned, and you either get lucky or pay cash, and there’s no equivalent exchange for that procedure. However, the J-List shop is all about “equivalent exchange.” For instance, the Edward Elric POP UP PARADE Figure can be yours forever, provided you pay less than what War of the Visions FFBE asks for, and he comes without a shirt.
Likewise, the King Bradley POP UP PARADE Figure comes with his deadly swords, like in the game, and you can keep him even after you stop playing the game.
Finally, the Roy Mustang 1/8 ARTFX J Figure is now available for pre-order, and he has those cool flames ready to go.
Are you currently playing War of the Visions FFBE, or will this crossover bring you to the game? Do you think Fullmetal Alchemist belongs in Final Fantasy more than Tomb Raider? Or can King Bradley or Olivier Mira Armstrong take Sephiroth in a pure swordsmanship fight? Let us know in the comments below.
