Fate/Samurai Remnant is the newest entry in the long-running and popular Fate series. It’s known for epic tales, legendary battles, and an army of waifus. This would be the first full RPG entry in the series, whereby players control a character to navigate various districts in Edo during the Keian era.
Fans of the series will have to wait a little longer to play. The game is set to release on September 28th, 2023. Koei-Tecmo and Omega Force have released a trailer to showcase Fate/Samurai Remnant‘s plot and gameplay. It is available in both English and Japanese.
The developers set up a home page to promote Fate/Samurai Remnant. It is available in both Japanese and English. Additionally, there is an official Twitter page, but it is only in Japanese. Fans can also follow the official Type-Moon Twitter page for more Fate series information and updates.
A War Under the Waxing Moon
Fate/Samurai Remnant continues the tradition of taking historical places and people and adding a fantastical element to things. The game takes place during the fourth year of the Keian era in 1651, on the precipice of the Keian Uprising. This event saw a coordinated attack by ronin, samurai with no lords or clans. Their goal was to undermine and destroy the Tokugawa Shogunate.
Iori Miyamoto (voiced by Kengo Kawanishi) is one of the leading characters. He is the adopted son of Musashi Miyamoto and an heir to his sword style. But his master died before teaching him its secrets. Iori is swept up in the events of the Keian Uprising, perhaps due to his status as a ronin. He is also drawn into the Waxing Moon Ritual, likely a type of Holy Grail War. The ritual creates the Waxing Moon, which can grant any wish.
These events unlock Iori’s magical abilities, and, like Shiro before him, he summons a Heroic Spirit. Saber (voiced by Hibiku Yamamura) will join Iori on his adventures and face down enemies beside him in battle. A different version of Musashi (voiced by Ayane Sakura), a woman and Heroic Spirit of the Berserker class, will also join Iori.
A Lancer (voiced by Maaya Sakamoto), who looks suspiciously like Jeanne d’Arc Alter, will be one of the many enemies to stand against the heroes. The player, with Iori or Saber, will travel around and fight in different districts of Edo, such as Yoshiwara, Kanda, and Akasaka.
Fate/Samurai Remnant Origins
As previously stated, Fate/Samurai Remnant is another entry in the Fate series. Where it might be set in canon or continuity is unknown right now. Type-Moon, led by Kinoko Nasu, released the first Fate/stay night as an adult visual novel on January 30th, 2004. Toned-down versions were released later, allowing it to reach general audiences.
Noted individuals who previously worked on the Fate series will be returning. Kinoko Nasu will be supervising the game. Hiraku Sakurai, who worked on Fate/Grand Order, and Yuichiro Higashida, known for Fate/Apocrypha, will write the game’s narrative. Keita Haga, who previously worked on Tsukihime and Melty Blood, has teamed with Daisuke Shinoda of Wild Hearts fame to compose the music.
Potential players should note that an already planned DLC will provide more story arcs and Servants. This is in addition to the pre-order bonus that gives Musashi a China dress to wear in battle. Avid fans of the series will likely be waiting to purchase the deluxe Treasure Box version of the game that has plenty of physical bonuses.
The J-List shop has a wide variety of items in the Fate series section if Fate fans have a terrible need for some legendary waifu in their life a lot sooner. First and foremost, Rider/Murasaki Shikibu 1/6 Figure from Fate/Grand Order is now available for pre-order.
