2022 was a wonderful year for original TV anime, and every season had something new to offer. One genre in particular that had multiple production teams trying to make an impression on fans was the extreme sports genre. Going backward from the present, in summer, we had the cute idol x sports series, Extreme Hearts. It’s unfortunate that this series premiered in the summer because had it premiered just three or, even better, six months earlier it wouldn’t have been so colossally overshadowed by the extreme golf anime that premiered in the spring and absolutely captured the hearts of fans around the world, Birdie Wing: Golf Girls’ Story.
After Birdie Wing finished its airing on a decidedly not final point in its current story arc, fans were luckily quickly informed that the series would get a second season in January 2023… which was soon delayed to spring 2023. Fortunately, our brief wait is ending soon, and to celebrate the impending April premiere of season two, the crew has released a new promotional video that shows off plenty of extreme golf action and reveals one of the theme songs.
In the video, they revealed that the opening theme song titled Venus Line will be sung by the returning Kohmi Hirose (who performed the first season’s opening theme). Meanwhile, the theme song you could actually hear in the video is titled Kimi ga Iru Kara (Since You’re Here) and is performed by Sarasa Kadowaki.
Birdie Wing first premiered in the spring of 2022 with animation produced by Bandai Namco Pictures, under the direction of Takayuki Inagaki, and quickly found its audience with its unique spin (no pun intended) on the world of golf. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan and describes the story:
Fore! After Eve’s first meet up with Aoi on the grass left her in defeat, she’s had her eyes set on a rematch to return the favor. Both these up and coming golfers are highly skilled, highly unique and most of all, highly competitive. With dreams of making it pro, a rivalry is getting into full swing as they both battle it out in the biggest tournaments.
