Girls’ Frontline is a popular mobile and smartphone strategy game developed by a Chinese company MICA Team. It was first released in China in May 2016 which was then followed in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea in 2017. The game was also released for the West and in Japan in 2018. This is a prequel to Codename: Bakery Girl, a game also developed by MICA Team.
The game features cute anthropomorphism of “Tactical Dolls” (or T-Dolls) which each represents real-world firearms. The player can craft their own T-Dolls, complete missions, and even complete limited quests to get super rare T-Dolls. It has some gacha elements which you can either gather specific items and requirements for you to roll for characters or far beyond as getting them by purchasing them with real cash.
Like many of the popular smartphone games out there, Girls’ Frontline was never behind when it comes to collaborations with other game companies. DJMax Respect, a popular PS4 rhythm game released three songs from Girls’ Frontline as DLC on September 4, 2018.
The game also had a collaboration with game company Arc System Works last November 20, 2018, which gives the player a chance to recruit Elphelt Valentine and Noel Vermillion from Guilty Gear and BlazBlue respectively as recruitable units. VA-11 HALL-A, a popular anime cyberpunk visual novel by Sukeban Games announced on January 11, 2019, that it will be having a collaboration with Girls’ Frontline.
Like other smartphone game franchises like Azur Lane, Fate/Grand Order, and Kantai Collection, it seems to not really be a big surprise that Girls’ Frontline will be getting into the anime adaptation hype. Although the upcoming series will only be short, it could be another step forward for other adaptations in the future.
