Tamiki Wakaki has once again graced the world with divinity. He began work on 16bit Sensation only three years after finishing work on The World God Only Knows. His legendary work was one of the first anime series about a group of girls being “conquered” by different routes, which authentically portrayed the eroge experience. Those who know of his work can get excited for the forthcoming 16bit Sensation: ANOTHER LAYER. It’s a series about an artist who puts her skills into illustrating an eroge. The series is set to premiere on October 4, 2023. Let’s enjoy the trailer until then.
It takes a lot of effort to bring a visual novel to life. Here are just some of those significant employees at Alcohol Soft.
- Konoha Akisato — Aoi Koga (Shouko Komi in Komi Can’t Communicate). An artist who loves bishojo games. She travels to the past and finds employment at Alcohol Soft.
- Kaori Shimoda — Ayako Kawasumi (Saki Tenjoin in To Love Ru Darkness). She’s a professional artist who is as lewd as she is attractive.
- Meiko Uehara — Yui Horie (Mamiya in Kantai Collection). A burgeoning artist who gets wrapped up in her PC shop’s hidden game development side.
Studio Silver has maintained a promotional home page for 16bit Sensation: Another Layer and an official Twitter page. Fans and potential viewers can find character bios as well as behind-the-scenes information. They can also find the series’ key visuals, one of which was drawn by the artist Misato Mitsumi.
The World Tamiki Wakaki Only Knows
Tamiki Wakaki, famous for his harem series The World God Only Knows, did not totally leave his well-known area of bringing eroge elements to life. While The World God Only Knows had a male protagonist life live like it was an eroge, 16bit Sensation: Another Layer sees a few cute girls creating lewd bishojo games. Fanservice will likely happen if they have adapted the manga in specific ways. Various character arts presented the girls in somewhat revealing attire in the manga. This is Tamiki Wakaki we’re talking about. The man knows how to create good waifus.
Misato Mitsumi, Tatsuki Amazuyu, and Tamiki Wakaki conceptualized 16bit Sensation: The Bishojo Game Made by All of You and I (16bit Sensation: Watashi to Minna ga Tsukutta Bishojo Game). Kadokawa Shoten has published two volumes since December 31, 2016. The manga strikes a similar tone to Koe de Oshigoto! and gives viewers a look behind the curtain of how eroge are made.
Wakaki is teamed with Tatsuya Takahashi, a former Aquaplus writer. This duo has created an original storyline for 16bit Sensation: Another Layer. As such, this is not a perfect adaptation of the manga series, as it will include a new character and plot element. This may explain the “Another Layer” subtitle.

16bit Sensation: Another Layer presents a fantastical and historical tale. Konoha Akisato is an artist who enjoys bishojo games. It’s her goal to get into the industry and draw the lovely girls she sees on screen. Her goal is within reach, sort of. She’s become an industry artist, but her work consists of mob characters. Popularity and beautiful girls are a long way off for her.
Konoha is given an older bishojo game from the 90’s. She is dazzled by the style of classic games and thinks of those glory days. A light overtook her, and she was sent backward in time to the year 1992 to meet the same people who created the game she admired. Konoha joined the hidden game development team Alcohol Soft, which operated on the second floor of the PC game and repair shop R. Maybe she would achieve her dream after all.
