Canadian-born Japanese professional wrestler Kenny Omega made quite an interesting entrance on Saturday during the AEW Double or Nothing event when he made his entrance wearing the outfit worn by Kirito from Sword Art Online.
In a report by Gamerant, the jacket he wore was modified a bit to include a single feathered wing on the back. This is related to Omega’s finishing move called “One-Winged Angel” which is a direct reference to the Final Fantasy VII character Sephiroth.
This isn’t the first time that he wore an outfit inspired from anime or video games. In fact, during the New Japan Pro Wrestling event that happened last year, he appeared and made an awesome entrance wearing the Curse of Osiris expansion gear inspired by the hit game Destiny 2.
His cosplay was quite a hit especially to fans but it was a bit of a risky move for him back then as Destiny 2 and Bungie were in hot water with its fans due to the game’s microtransaction storefront the Eververse. Aside from this, the game was also being criticized for utilizing XP and Glimmer farming caps without informing players.
Going back to Omega, it’s expected that some people might still doubt his love for Japanese anime, video game, and pop culture in general. However, he really is a fan of these as he mentioned in a tweet he posted back in 2014 says that he was able to get all the Sword Art Online and Attack on Titan figures from a UFO catcher. He was very proud.
