Gotta go slow and steady—the Sonic The Hedgehog movie which was originally slated to premiere this year has been delayed to February 14, 2020, to fix the CGI character design of Sonic. The announcement of this new date was made officially by director Jeff Fowler on his official Twitter account last weekend.

Paramount Pictures has officially released the trailer for Sonic The Hedgehog last April 30. As of this writing, the video trailer that was uploaded on Youtube had more than 674,000 dislikes and 380,000 likes. Netizens expressed disappointment over the design of Sonic in this adaptation and voiced that he is extremely different from his original game design in which he was fondly popular for.
While a majority of the comments were flooded with so much hate and disappointment for this film, some have said that they are giving this film a chance but they’re keeping their expectations low.
This Hollywood film adaptation of Sonic The Hedgehog is centered on Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz), the brash bright blue hedgehog as he navigates through Earth with his new human best friend Tom Wachowski (played by James Marsden). Both Tom and Sonic team up to stop the evil Robotnik (played by Jim Carey) from capturing Sonic and using his speedy powers and abilities for world domination.
The film was originally scheduled to be released in the United States on November 15, 2019, but Paramount Pictures moved it to November 8 instead. As of this writing, they have not released the new official premiere dates for Australia, United Kingdom, and Japan. This will be Jeff Fowler’s first film project as director.
Netizens were able to get a glimpse of Sonic’s design way back when it was briefly leaked in a branding deck in the website of the advertising agency named Hamagami/Caroll, Inc. The design that was seen in the leaks match the same design of Sonic in the released trailer.
With the movie release delayed for a few more months, we can only hope that the new design of Sonic would finally get a lot of fans to watch it. We will only find out once a new trailer pops up and when it officially hits theaters near you.
