Ryousuke Hata released his The Strongest Magician in the Demon Lord’s Army Was a Human novel to Shosetsuka ni Naro on February 22nd, 2016. Futabasha obtained the publishing rights and hired the artist Kuma to adapt the series to a light novel format. Five volumes were published in the Monster Bunko imprint from September 30th, 2016, to April 27th, 2018.
Our demon-sworn human and two demon waifus are as follows:
- Ike — Jun Fukuyama (Yumichika Ayasegawa in Bleach). Ike was once a regular high school student from Japan. He became the captain of the Undying Brigade, the seventh division of the Demon King’s army.
- Dairokuten — Manaka Iwami (Linie from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End). The sixth Demon King. Due to her Japanese name and advanced tactics, Ike believes she was reincarnated, too.
- Cefiro — Shizuka Ito (Kai Harn in Bastard!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy-). The general of the seventh division of the Demon King’s army. Despite knowing that Ike is human, Cefiro is quite fond of him.

Ike was once a regular Japanese high school student who suddenly reincarnated in another world. Though still human, he was raised by the powerful demon general Romberg as his grandson. Ike rose through the ranks as a powerful magician in his own right and became a brigade captain. His methods of reducing needless violence and enacting puppet regimes saw great success, even if other demons questioned his merciful means.
The beautiful witch and alchemist Cefiro knows about Ike’s secret status. She supports him as his general and friend. The amount of times she has been disrobed before him suggests other intentions. The Demon King — a lovely and powerful demon girl — is also aware of his status as a human. What’s more, she knows he’s from another world. This is because she is from that same world, though she’s from an age or two before his. Ike’s desire to see humans and demons coexist peacefully may be far away.
