Fantastic news for cosplay lovers worldwide; the World Cosplay Summit is making its big return to Nagoya City in Aichi Prefecture as a hybrid event from August 5th to 7th, 2022!
We’ve talked about and covered the results of previous World Cosplay Summits here on the J-List Blog in the past, though the last couple of years have been a bit quieter. That, as you know, is because of the worldwide pandemic making it impossible for people to travel from around the world to show off their cosplay skills. With restrictions being eased around the world, however, the organizers have decided to bring the event back as a mix of in-person and online events.
This year, the competition will be divided into two divisions: the Stage division which will be contested by those teams who can travel to Japan for the event, and the Video division which will be made up of teams who are unable to travel to Japan.
While they have provided no details regarding how representative teams will be chosen this year, the official website has already laid out the details on how to form a team and what will be expected of your team. The application portal won’t open officially until June 4th, however, so you still have a bit of time to figure out if you want to take a chance at winning the world championship.
The World Cosplay Summit is a magical event that is always filled with fun skits and, of course, amazing cosplays. Check out this skit from the 2019 grand prize winners from Australia for just a taste of what you can expect from this year’s event:
If you think you have what it takes to be the very best (like no one ever was), start putting together your ideas now because the deadline to apply will be here and gone before you even realize it!
