I admit it, if I had the kind of ‘Go screw yourself’ money required to buy this Final Fantasy figure, I would do it in a heartbeat. Weighing in at a mighty 75 pounds and standing over 30 inches, this is the ultimate figure for any Final Fantasy fan.
Based on an original illustration created by Final Fantasy designer Yoshitaka Amano, this statue is a 600-unit limited edition release that is currently available for pre-order from the SquareEnix online store, right now, until either June 24th or whenever supplies become exhausted, whichever comes first.
Before you get out of your wallets, however, you should know that you might have to take out a pretty hefty personal loan to even afford this figure which is being sold for 1,435,000 yen (around $12,000 US dollars) and won’t be released until next summer at the earliest.
In case you’re wavering about that price tag, SquareEnix took the time to interview Amano about the statue, and even he was impressed with the work of the artists and sculptors. In the posted interview, Amano mentions that his first impression of the statue was being amazed that it actually existed. He went on to say that he wants two of the statues for himself; one for people to marvel at and another to keep safely stored away.
Speaking about his experiences working on Final Fantasy VI, he mentioned that there weren’t a lot of female protagonists back in the time of Tina (or Tiffa as some might better know her) and that Final Fantasy VI was the culmination of everything that he had worked on until that point of his life.
Final Fantasy VI holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers around the world. The question that I’m left asking is if there are enough die-hard gamers around the world with the kind of money stacks needed to acquire this admittedly beautiful Final Fantasy statue.
