To the shock and amazement of absolutely no one, we can now confirm that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, will return for a third television season. At the same time, they also confirmed that the primary cast and crew will return to reprise their roles in the new season.
Aniplex of America celebrated the announcement by releasing a short promotional video on YouTube, which shows off two new characters that we will meet in the new arc:
Titled the Swordsmith Village arc, this arc follows Tanjiro as he returns to the Swordsmith Village to get a new weapon, only for things to go terribly wrong as things in anime tend to do. The two new characters that we will meet are the Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji and Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito.
Unfortunately, that’s all we know so far. No release date for the new season was revealed at the time nor do we know who will voice the new characters but, as always, stay tuned to the J-List Blog for more updates as they become available.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has certainly taken on a life of its own and at the rate new seasons are being released, I get the feeling that I’m going to be repeating the same background information repeatedly for many years to come. Now, that’s not automatically a bad thing. It’s always fascinating to observe the anime community at large and see what resonates with fans and why. While I might not be the biggest fan of the franchise, its impact around the world is immeasurable and I’m certainly not going to complain about another series finding mainstream success.
Love it or hate it, Demon Slayer has made itself comfortable and will not disappear at any point in the near future, so it’s probably best for all of us if we just make peace with that.
